Randsburg | Garlock | California

Randsburg is a cute little town, known as a living ghost town, an ex-mining town.

They have nicely preserved the old buildings.

Unfortunately, the museum was closed, they have very limited hours.

A surf shop many miles from any surf - but it makes for an interesting sign.

Outside of town, there are the remains of the mine.  It was gated off, but there was no fence attached to the gate so I had to go in and take some photos.  There was no warning sign, no trespassing sign, nothing - that's my excuse.

Nearby was the old "town site" of Garlock, which apparently someone owns because there were a few people there, but it's mostly fenced off.

Fossil Falls | BLM Campground | California

This is a small campground right off Route 395 in the Eastern Sierra Mountains in California.  Volcanic rock and typical desert flora make up the scenery, as well as the mountains off in the distance, including one with snow still on the peak.  It's a great little campground and very quiet.

Wildflowers were blooming while I was there.

And, of course, little lizards were all over.

There is an old lake bed nearby, which allows boondocking.  The surface is so dry it feels like concrete.

The Fossil Falls are the fossils themselves - a dried up riverbed.  Years of water flowing through has sculpted the rocks into carved, rounded shapes.

The water has made little areas where plants can grow.

Route 66 | Victorville | California

This was one of the most interesting things I saw on this part of Route 66.  The Bottle Tree Ranch is an amazing collection of bottles and other antique items.  I was surprised that there was no one there to charge admission.

There were too many of these bottle trees to count.

There were other things on my trip, but for me - less impressive.

And other interesting items - a bench seat!

This shows the entire route of Route 66.

I'm not sure what the Dunes were, but there were a few old abandoned buildings, like it might have been a motel or something.

The next few photos are from the town of Victorville.

Unfortunately, many of the buildings in the downtown area were abandoned.

I thought this was part of Route 66, but I found out it's probably only a bridge to get into some type of factory.  Interesting bridge.

I have seen tumbleweeds in other places, but this is the biggest one I've seen.  Seems that they had a tumbleweed infestation due to the winds in the area.
