Roslyn | Washington

On the way to visit Roslyn, we found this pretty lake.  And somewhere along the way, we passed the mountain peaks, with snow!  Washington State has some great scenery.

Roslyn was made famous when it was the site of the filming of the TV show called Northern Exposure.

The buildings are restored and are in good shape and are picturesque.

Coal mines were close to town, and in 1892 there was an explosion in one of the mines and 45 of the workers were killed.  They keep signs, flowers and black ribbons on the graves of the workers killed in that disaster.

It's a very quiet place and mostly kept up, except for a few areas.

Winthrop | Washington

On the road coming into this little town, we saw that the street was barricaded......

Yes, this town stopped traffic for a Saturday morning square dance right in the middle of the main street!  How many times do you see something like that?

We went around the block to find a place to park and explore the town.

Nicely restored black Chevy on the left in this photo.

Another nice restored Chevy below.  Apparently weekends are popular days to explore town.

Leavenworth | Washington State |

I had an opportunity to visit a good friend who lives in a suburb of Seattle, Washington recently.  We decided to do a short road trip to see some of the state.  We stayed in a town called Leavenworth, which is in the mountains.  It used to be a small town like any other, but someone came up with the idea of making it a tourist town.  They did a beautiful job, as all the buildings have an Alpine look to them and an abundance of flowers as seen above and in the photos below.  As a bonus, the scenery around this area is gorgeous.

This guy was standing across the street from where we stayed.
